Tire Maintenance

Posted by Wes - Jayco Group Moderator On September - 5 - 2008

I am placing this article under RV Safety and Maintenance as it touches on both areas.

I am surprised by the number of people who come in to our dealership with trade-ins that range from 10-15 years old and when we ask them the condition of the tires they tell us the are in great shape and are the ORGINALS from the factory.

HOW OLD ARE YOUR TIRES? Do you realize automobile and RV tires only have a life of 6 years? After that they become extremely dangerous! No, we didn’t just make that up to scare you and sell tires.

Take a few minutes to watch this video from ABC News. It will really make you think!

Sway Bars are an important safety feature….

Posted by Wes - Jayco Group Moderator On September - 5 - 2008

This is a copy of an email we received from one of our customers…

Hi all,

As many of you may have already heard, our family was hit by a passing vehicle while returning home from vacation in Virginia.  While traveling in the middle lane of a congested I-95 South last Friday, a car  attempted to move around us, lost control and hit our vehicle.  As the result of the impact, our trailer began to spin and flip.  We made a complete 180 degree turn and were resting in the emergency lane facing on coming traffic.  How we spun across the three lanes without hitting another vehicle or how we avoided being  hit again by another vehicle was an absolute miracle given how dense the traffic flow was at that time of day.

At this juncture we are fairly confident that our trailer is totaled.  We are still waiting on the verdict regarding the Expedition.  The tow truck driver said that had we not had the sway bars installed, our truck would have also rolled when the trailer flipped on its side.  We were extremely blessed to have walked away from this tragedy with some minor pains and frayed nerves!

A special word of thanks to Jack & Sue Horn who were traveling with us.  Without their help, support, and trailer space we may still be moving things back from Virginia.

Chuck & Gina

The moral to this story - If you buy a Travel Trailer of ANY type SPEND THE EXTRA MONEY FOR SWAY CONTROL! Look Below:
